Fixed-line phone connections in decline: ACMA

There is a continuing decline in household landline telephones, according to a new report from the telecommunications regulator ACMA revealing that for the first time more than half of Australian adults rely solely on their mobile for making and receiving voice calls at home.

Landlines may become extinct earlier than expected according to comparison website Finder which says that a recent survey of several thousand Australians reveals they are using mobiles and only have a home phone because it came with their Internet service.

Australians considering switching their service providers for fixed broadband, mobile phone, home phone, electricity and gas are all far more likely to visit comparison websites in an average four weeks than the typical Australian, according to a new report.

TPG Telecom has reported a net profit after tax of $396.9 million for the year ending 31 July, a drop of 4.6% compared to the previous year, with EBITDA of $841.1 million, down 5.6%. The results reflect the continuing pressure on margins caused by the NBN.
